To make traditional Matcha:
Sold in 1/4 pounds
Instructions
- Warm the bowl and whisk
- Fill the bowl with hot water.
- Soak the bamboo whisk for 30 seconds to soften the tines.
- Empty the bowl and dry it.
- Sift the matcha
- Sift 2 grams of matcha into the bowl to remove clumps.
- Add hot water
- Pour in 2–3 ounces of water heated to 160–175°F (70–80°C).
- Avoid boiling water, which can make the tea bitter.
- Whisk
- Hold the bowl steady.
- Whisk rapidly in a “W” or “M” motion using your wrist (not your whole arm) for about 15–20 seconds.
- Finish by gently lifting the whisk through the center to create a smooth layer of fine foam.
- Enjoy immediately
- Drink directly from the bowl while the foam is fresh.
